Robbert van den Berg is the Managing Director for Mercy Corps in the Netherlands. Robbert has over thirty years of experience in international cooperation and executive leadership in the humanitarian and development sector. Before joining Mercy Corps in February 2024, he led Stichting Vluchteling’s earthquake response program in Turkey and Syria and served as senior advisor to the Dutch government for the UN Water Conference. From 2004 to 2017, he worked as Regional Director for Oxfam in Latin America, the Horn, East and Central Africa, and later for the Middle East and Northern Africa region. Based in Thailand, Robbert managed ECPAT International, a global network to fight the sexual exploitation of children as Executive Director and played a key role in humanitarian and reconstruction projects in, among others, Cambodia, the earthquake-struck Chile and during the civil war in Sierra Leone. Robbert holds a master’s degree in international development studies from Leiden University (Netherlands).
